A Year of Growth and Commitment
Running over 12 months from July to June, the program invites motivated students to grow both personally and as contributors to their community.
Participants commit to:
- Attending at least eight Lions Club meetings
- Representing the Club at a minimum of six community events
- Completing 30 hours of volunteer service
This structured approach ensures young people are fully immersed in the Lions experience, building confidence, skills, and meaningful connections along the way.
Mentorship That Matters
A standout feature of the program is the mentorship provided by members of the Lions Club of Mareeba. Drawing on their experience and community knowledge, Lions support participants throughout the journey, helping them unlock their potential and develop valuable life skills.
Meaningful (and Fun) Service
Participants take part in a variety of service activities, including:
- Environmental clean-ups
- Community markets and events
- Fundraising initiatives
- Practical projects that support local needs
- Importantly, the program emphasises that volunteering should be both meaningful and enjoyable, creating an experience young people genuinely want to be part of.
Recognition and Future Opportunities
Young Leaders are recognised for their commitment and achievements through:
- A program shirt and name badge
- A certificate of completion
- A written reference from the Club
- A small bursary to support further study or trade training
Who Can Apply?

- In Years 10–11
- Aged 15–16 years
- From all academic backgrounds
- With an interest in community service, leadership, and teamwork
