October is Mental Health Month, which is a fantastic opportunity to Roar for Mental Health – Helping Create Strength in Awareness and Action.

Here are some ideas for how you can get involved as a Lions Club.

1. Host a Mental Health Awareness Event

  • Organise a Club lunch, community event, seminar or workshop, focused on mental health topics. Invite mental health professionals to speak and provide valuable information.

2. Run a Social Media Campaign

  • Use the club’s social media platforms to share mental health resources, facts, and stories throughout the week. Encourage members and the community to engage by sharing their own experiences. See below we have created a series of tiles and stories you can post.

3. Organise a Mental Health First Aid Training

  • Offer a mental health first aid course for club members and/or the community to equip them with the skills to support themselves and others

4. Launch a “Roar for Mental Health” Challenge

  • Perhaps you could encourage members to try new self care activities or tasks to their daily or weekly routine and share what worked for them, great to generate discussion about mental health and wellbeing

5. Promote ALWF Resources

6. Hold a Fundraiser for Mental Health Charities

  • Organize a fundraising event like a charity dinner, auction, or raffle, with proceeds going to mental health organizations or initiatives.

7. Promote Self-Care Practices

  • Can you run a self care club event – such as mindfulness session, yoga class, or art therapy?

    8. Invite a Mental Health Advocate to Speak

    • Bring in a mental health advocate or someone with lived experience to speak at a club meeting, providing insight and inspiring action.

These activities can help Lions Clubs actively engage with communities, raise awareness about mental health, and contribute to a culture of support and understanding.
